My family has had in its possession two aircraft tires since 1946. They claim that they are for a B-29. The are Firestone Sky Champion brand 17:00-20. They have never been used and have been stored in dry non-temperature controlled places since then.

Can anyone confirm that this model tire was used on B-29's or other bombers of this vintage? Since my family dwelled in Detroit during WWII it could be likely they were for B-24s since legions of these aircraft were pumped out of the Willow Run factory.

I will try to post pictures.

They're not for a B-29. The B-29 and B-24 both use the same nose and main tire. The nose is a 36" SC, and the main is a 56" SC.

Check the sidewall and see if the cord is made from rayon, if so, the tire is not airworthy.
