We have finally completed the restoration of our Douglas C-47A ZS-NTE c/n 11926 and have made two great test flights, one on the 6th of September 2010 and the second on the 18th. :D :D :D

It is now de-militarised and converted to 28 pax configuration. It will now undertake a new life of Safari work throughout Southern Africa. :D

Very nice restoration work there. Does the autopilot function? It's very rare to see the original autopilot fitted to a Dak.

Very, very nicely done!! The old girl sure has a litany of history. I'm happy to see you took the extra time to use epoxy paint on the inner structure followed by CIC (corrosion inhibiting compound) as used by Boeing and other big airframe builders, then modern batting type blankets-it should go a really long time without any worries regarding corrosion where you can't see it-very sharp and a smart call!!

Thanks for the kind words guys! Yes, the original autopilot works well, and needed minimal attention to get it going again. We were lucky with that one! As for the extra corrossion proofing under the skin - yes, as painstaking as it was, we took great effort in ensuring that big structural work should be kept at bay for many years!

Great job and very impressive. Our organization, the Heartland Air Museum of Bristow Oklahoma, USA, is nearing the end of a 5 year rebuild of our C-47. The difference between ours and yours is that we are going back to a stock C-47. As we near flight status, we are still a few components short of a total restoration. Most notably, we only have the right seat side beam with which to connect our bench bucket seats. We have all of the seats, minus a few of their vertical kick plate supports, but we do not have a side beam for the left side. We are also missing various heat/air vent parts to provide both heat and air to the interior. Question, in your restoration did you perchance remove any of those items or know of anyone in your neck of the woods who might have them. I could email photos and part numbers if that would be of any help. Once again, great job and thanks for saving another great girl from the scrappers. James Dagg C-47 project Heartland Air Museum.
