For all of my fellow Crew Chiefs, Directors of Maintenance, Chiefs of Maintenance, Lead Mechanics, and just plane old - old plane mechanics, what have you found that works best for tracking the maintenance on your warbird(s)? Are you using just good old fashioned log books, or an Excel spreadsheet, or is there a particular aircraft maintenance tracking software that you found works well for you? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks in advance for your replies! |

Hi Bill, I've thought about maint tracking software and that's as far as I get. The time it would take to load the data is time I don't have. We use a large dry erase board with the items that are due for each of our airplanes, 9 so far. Between the board and our logbooks we do OK. David |

I've been using Excel spreadsheets for almost 15 years. Designed my own template early on and still it works well for me. I set it up to automatically calculate Times In Service, Total Time, TSMOH, etc. Whenever I get a "new" airplane that I need to track, it usually only takes me a couple of hours to go back through its existing logbooks, equipment list, W&B records, etc and put all of that info into a new Excel worksheet using my template. I usually want to do all of that records "review" with a "new" airplane anyway and once I'm done, it's easy to keep it up-to-date. It's searchable (very helpful) and it's portable, easy to share with others (such as the owner or prospective buyers.) |

I can try and set you up with something very similar to the US Army current style system if you are interested, Excel based and you would just need to plug in your components and times. Pm if you are seriously interested, I will do it to help out the -17. -Robert |
