We have removed a few of the wing panels on the -54 for inspections and such. Trouble is, we've had a few sticky screws that had to be drilled out. Of the 7 that had to be drilled, we had one damage the nut, which is part of a nut plate strip that is riveted to the inside of the wing. The strip is about 2 feet long and I do not want to remove it. I'd like to just replace the nut. Trouble is, I can't find a part number for just the nut. It's an elastic stop nut type but square with little tabs in each corner holding it in the strip. It is a 1/4-28 thread. Anyone have a handful around? |

Good luck finding those! You might try Jerry Sorm on Paine Field in Everett, WA. he knows every inch of DC-6's and has bins and bins of standards, beware tho-he's about a socially acceptable and easy to deal with as the Tasmanian Devil on acid. I worked for him for a few months years ago and always felt he would make a great boil on your butt with an ingrown hair in it ![]() ![]() |

Can you not attack a single nut plate & remove the actual nut part? |

I did remove the single nut. I was able to pop it out. However, I need to replace it. So I'm looking for some. There is no part # in any of my 3 different parts manuals for the C-54 or DC-4. |

I've used the floating nut part from a single nut plate in the past. I staked the new nut in the track to retain it. |

Right. That's probably what I'm going to do. I'd rather get another nut like the original. With all the airplanes of the era manufactured, I can't believe a part number for what seems to be a common item can be so elusive. |
