Aluminum type cross reference

I am thinking of building a toolbox from a 1940s aircraft maintenance textbook. It seems a pretty neat project that involves metal forming, riveting etc. The book references the old types of aluminum like 17S. Where can I find a reference for crossing the old styles to the current types or to whatever is closest?

17S is 2017 alloy. Much more common now is 2024T3 (was 24ST). Any aircraft supply house should have 2024T3 in stock.

Any metal supply should have 6061T6 if you don't actually need certified aircraft grade aluminum and it should work great for your application.

Thanks for the quick response. I feel like a dolt that I didn't think of Aircraft Spruce!
