With Regard to A-26 Landing Gear/Wheels, I have seen a few photographs of the Douglas A-26 sitting on the flight line, and in some of these photos, it appears that there is a part of a hose sticking out from the center of the wheel bearings…..What, is this device and can anyone throw me a close up photo of this “thing”? |

that would be a hydrualic/brake line that runs through the center of the wheel assembly. |

I belong to a air musem in NO. CA. and I will be down there in AUG. I am living in Oregon now. We have a A-26B, and we also have all the original manuals for it, I could probably get a copy of that page for you while I am down there if it will help? I am not sure how to post tem, if you go to museum website it will be under aircraft/a-26. It is a early B, had (notice "had") the wing pods with 2 50's mounted under wings. You can see the outline where they were. It has early single cockpit door, not clam-shell style. I am new to this site and dont know what to do yet. I will try but no guaranty. sorry. Welcome John, thanks for the links, I have read where you have to have a webshots account, or some other thing to link your photos in, and since anyone can rip your photos off, I haven't set one up, and Gary is too cheap to buy an album, which I suppose you can lock. I just dunno man. Thanks again..and welcome...great group of people here. |

gary1954, I took a couple of photos of Pacific Coast Air Museum's A26 Invader brake assemblies this afternoon. I live about 10 minutes away. If you need any other photos let me know. There is also another A26B on the airport (Charles M. Schulz, Sonoma County Airport, Santa Rosa, CA) that doesn't have the hose sticking through the middle. Regards, Jim Long

Myles, thanks for the close up snaps, I am wondering? if this application appeared on WWII and Korean War ear -26s as well, or is this post war? |

The brake setup that doesn't have the hose is the Dc-6 wheel and brake mod. The originals are the Bendix brake. The wheel and tire pictured looks a lot like a B-25 wheel. |
