Well Dan..I have no wood or metal skills...only small scale plastic model skills. But if I lived by you I would sure as hell help you out everday on your project. 8) Your TBY project is the coolest freakin' project thread on WIX(IMHO). And if I ever win the lotto your TBY will be a flyer Dan! Thats my promise.

The daunting part of this project (can't avoid any longer) is creating the four forward truss/longerons. The drawings call for creating these channels out of .125" aluminum plate...particularly stubborn stuff to work with. As she'll be static, I'll be improvising a bit here. Material has been ordered--hope to have a thumbs up on the process in a couple of weeks.

Dan,

do you have a photo or drawing of the longeron you need to make. Working with .125" alum plate is not hard, if you know what you are doing. I do have some 40 yrs. experience in doing just that.

It's great to see someone who has taken interest in an aircraft built at my home base airport. When you finish the project... the MAAM would probably be very interested in it. That is, of course, if you wanted it to be displayed at a museum. The goal of the MAAM is to preserve aircraft that have a special connection to the mid-atlantic region.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Hi All,

Again, many thanks for everyone's interest in this project.

I had lots of plans for lots of progress this summer. Unfortunately, my job disappeared in July, and keeping a roof over the family's head has taken a higher priority for now (sacrilege, I know!).

Rest assured that any news on future progress will be posted here first.

Dan: Hope things have moved to the positive column or are going that way. Been there and done that before. No matter what, be positive as a bad attitude can set in like a stubborn infection. Send me a PM with an outside emal address if you want to vent.

Thanks for that, Craig.

To tell the truth, I was done venting in the first 24 hours. Anger and anxiety do nothing but dig big holes. The situation will be resolved -- hopefully sooner, but maybe later. Que sera sera.

Hi - I am new to the group - if you want to do a flyable TBY I may be able to help. I'm a PhD structural engineer, and do aircraft welding as a sideline. A 'true' TBY is probably not possible - but a welded fuselage and stressed-skin wings, maybe.

I'll donate the welding, and some analysis.

Update time.

Many thanks to all you closet XTBU-1/TBY-2 fans out there, and especially all who have sent personal messages during the last couple of months. All the support has meant a great deal to my family and me.

To those who are still biting the unemployment bullet: I know what you're going through. Hang in there. It will improve.

I feel very blessed to announce that I've been offered employment (with a pay increase to boot). The family and I will be pulling up stakes and heading for the Rochester, Minnesota, area by the end of the month. Hopefully the local WIXers can embrace another displaced cheesehead.

The TBY project has been dismantled for the move. I can't begin to guess when forward progress will begin anew. But when it happens, you'll read about it here first.

And it's good to hear that you've got the TBY move planned out.
