Trip down to Sun & Fun was not without event. Landed in Mobile and discovered a cracked cylinder on #4 engine during post flight walk about. Squadron member Steve Johnson picked up our spare cylinder in Addison and flew it (in his 206) down while we pulled the old cylinder. Steve pulled in shortly after we had the cylinder removed. We were all frazzeled so we decided to retire for the evening to get a cold one and some sleep. Early the next morning (tuesday) we stabbed the new cylinder and started getting the girl back into shape. Left Kmob about 2 PM and pulled into Sun & Fun about 5pm Fla time. 927 ran without a hitch the rest of the week and for the trip back. Had alot of tour traffic and good ride loads Friday and Saturday. Everyone on the crew pitched in when needed and we covered alot of ground.. Great trip and group. Thanks to John Flynn for making sure everthing we needed was in the plane to change a cylinder, and the Cavenaugh guys for there help in getting us the cylinder and advice to go with it!!

On a few of those pictures, what were the white blobs on the R/H horizontal stabilzer? And not to sound like a jerk, but why wasn't the person taking the pictures buckled in, as per FAA Regulations, during the landing(s)? Have the rules changed? Just curious.

Gary if you look at the last image in the flickr posting they are gone, it almost makes me think they are some kind of trash. Mike Dillon (the photographer) is one of the newly checked out FEs.

Gary, you know everyone was buckled in! That was done in photo shop, smoke and mirrors, you know how that goes. We'd never break the rules. I was wondering the same thing about the white blobs. I'll see what I can find out.

yah.., i noticed some imperfections in the photos where the seat belts were blatantly edited out. Nicely done!!

I have a clamp mount motor drive for my camera, and a remote shutter switch. I wont be posting any more pictures though because my camera is broken and my patience has work thin.
The blobs of white on the tail were done with a 0u812 panametric filter set on high with a fast aperature setting. Actually it was rhime ice formed by a microburst down draft....

Take it from somebody who's posted a picture or two on this very thread....If you don't want what you're doing to be scrutinized, don't post the pictures. Take the compliments you get along with the criticism, and use those as tools to improve what you're doing or to raise your standards. It works. People are watching everything we do in the Warbird world because they're interested. Some of us are very fortunate to be able to have such closeness to these old airplanes. Sometimes we don't hear what we like from folks, but sometimes that's also a good thing.

I brought up the seat belt issue because it's important. Perhaps inconvenient for picture taking, but important nonetheless.

Well taken Gary, sorry about my smart ass rebuttal. I wish I could have worked with you during your tenoir at the CAF. As posted I am new to the org and thrusted from MX to flight ops I slipped up. Everyone down and buckled on TO/Landing from now on. Come out and see us in kads whenever you get a chance.

BTW I have heard many good words about you from flight crew members on the last 2 trips. You are missed...

The Snowbirds were there it seems, cool. Also, about Doolittle Raiders, it has french on its artwork ? Did not know that, what the story behind it ?

By the way, looking at the floor gun station, it must feel kind of odd to be looking down from there in flight ! Or even walk by on the way to the tail station !!!

Here are some pics from Wings over Addison last weekend. They did a tremendous job getting a bunch of WWII B-24 vets to come out and see Ol' 927!! We did also have the opportunity to take a few of them back to the skys! This time they weren't being shot at!!
