The airplane looks fantastic! I talked with Gary this afternoon, and Senator Mcgovern won't be able to make the Warbirds In Review session.

[quote="tulsaboy"]Found this picture while surfing the web... didn't know if Gary had it, or if anyone else had found it. Here's the website link... my German is bad, so I have no idea what the original source of the photo is.

kevin

It's not German Kevin. It's Dutch. And no, I don't speak it either.
But I'm sure another WIXER somewhere can.

I do. The website is indeed in Dutch, it is a privately run site which documents all sorts of WWII related information. Earlier this year we managed to unearth some info on Gary's DC-3 cockpit section from this site.

The photo of the tunnel gun is from a B-24L, on which the bottom ball turret was scrapped in favour of this installation, according to the text.

The source of the photo is not mentioned on the site, but I assume that it has been scanned from a book (uncredited), going by other photos on that site.

Thanks for all of the "atta-boys" y'all. It's been a tough week or so. First with the problems getting the airplane to Oshkosh, then with watching Gerry Beck's accident (I was running the B-24 up at the time). However, it was nice to be able to meet quite a few of the WIXers and it seems that the majority of the viewing public seemed to enjoy the transformation of the airplane. The only negative comments I heard were from old CAFers that just couldn't let go of the past.

I reckon the news that Alan Brooks is wanting me to share with y'all is that Ol' 927 was given the Judges' Choice, Bomber Award. I accepted the award at the banquet on Saturday night, on behalf of the CAF. I think that the Squadron will display the plaque in the airplane during the tour season this year.

I'm sorry for the short update, but I've got quite a bit of catching up to do here. Thanks again for all of the support.

Gary
