A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Looks like the “Ol’ 927 Whenzitgonnafly jar” can be retired now!

I'm sure I'm not alone in having a new appreciation of the work that goes into this kind of job, so let those who ask 'When's it going to be finished?' 'Who is going to fly it?' and 'What's it going to be painted as?' realise how trivial those questions are by being directed to this thread.

So when's Fifi gonna' be done? (James made me say it.)

Gary, the squadron website suggests that 927 will be arriving at Oshkosh on either Sunday or Monday from Selfridge. You've hinted that you're arriving on Thursday. Even though James will probably swat me with a rolled-up newspaper, I've just got to ask a trivial question:

On what day would a guy have a good chance of witnessing her arrival in Wisconsin?

Well, when we get some money, I reckon. :?

I will indeed be with the airplane as Flight Engineer when it leaves Midland and goes to Selfridge, followed by its arrival into Oshkosh. I will be in Oshkosh until Saturday, when I'll be flying back with Neils Agather in his Twin Beech (the one pictured in yesterday's test flight update). As of right now, I really don't know the exact arrival time, or even date for that matter, into OSH, as I've just been focused on getting the airplane ready to go. I'll see if I can find out for you though.

FAN-FLIPPIN'-TASTIC!! 8) CONGRATS YOU GUYS!

Dan K, I just found out the plan for our arrival into Oshkosh is Sunday evening (July 22), likely around 6 p.m. The exact arrival time will all hinge on when we will be allowed to depart the Selfridge airshow on Sunday.

Stunning Gary, absolutely stunning.

Seeing the interior shots from the new "Waste and Tail Gunner's" positions, makes me wish you could of found a 109/HA-1112 to come along for the ride for some mock .50 cal shot pictures.

Oh, and it wasn't just the airplane and pilots I fought this weekend...Ellen came across this nasty little fella (dang near stepped on him) on Saturday afternoon. We "neutralized" him, and from this picture you could probably assume that he wasn't even a little bit happy about meeting this "ho." ;-).........

I still have quite a list of items remaining before the airplane can go out on tour, not to mention a large amount of paperwork to finish up (yuk). So, I'm going to get back after it and I'll holler at y'all later.

I have to say, I work on jets for a living and maintain a GA airplane for our own use, but when the guys tucked in beside us the first time Saturday I really understood just how lucky I am to be a greasy old airplane mechanic.

Thanks, Gary.
