Hi,

You might have already considered this, but this is what I would do. The original drawings are available from NASM, but would be expensive for the few drawings that you would need. The panel would have been 1/8" thick aluminum, painted satin finish black. The two instrument sizes are 2 1/4" and 3 1/8" diameter. If you had a good photo of the panel that you want to reproduce, you could scale the panel size because you already know the instrument size. You will find that you can be very accurate using this method. Aircraft Spruce, www.aircraftspruce.com will have drill guides and panel hole cutters for instuments panels as well.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project.

Bill

Just for fun, here's a P-40 panel that was being restored down in New Zealand at AvSpecs. Good luck with your project!

Try contacting these nice folks at Ardmore Airfield, just south of Auckland. New Zealand. I visited them last year as they were finishing up this award winning P-40 restoration. They have done many P-40s and might be able to help. Maybe they can make you a template of a panel?

If you ask for any information for the P-51 or the B-17 everybody will answer, but for the P-40, the underdog of all fighters, it's going to be difficult. Anyway, PM or post a reply here if you still need any info for the panel, ok! :)

PM me with an email address and I'll send you what you want. If I post the panel blueprint here it's going to be very small. :(
