A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Hello,
What are some methods of removing corrosion from aircraft parts?
What are some effective methods? Can you media blast? If so whats the best media to use?
Thanks,
Nate

Yes.
Now, with the smart tushy non-answer out of the way.
What are the parts? What are the parts made of? What kind of corrosion? Airworthy or static? What resources do you have?

Static, aluminum.
Corrosion is of the white rough smelly kind(no holes), kind of like surface rust.

If you upload a photo we can point you in the right direction. There are several ways, mechanical or chemical.
Mechanical
Sanding, Blending, sand blasting
Chemical
WO1, ACF50 etc
They can also be combined. Normal practice for airworthy is mechanically removed and then chemically treated.

Sand???? Glass, plastic, chalk, soda or walnut shells etc. No one uses sand on aircraft.
