If you strip it yourself be aware of a few potential trouble areas. First, you will create s lot of waste water. Letting it run into the drain without testing or treating it is illegal under any circumstance. As for the chips, they can contain lead and chrome which must also be disposed correctly. Throwing these chips in the trash if they contain hazardous level is also illegal.

Tarps or plastic sheeting won't collect all the water that will created by stripping, so there will be run off. I have used PR-3500. Works great but it contains phenol's that must be removed before dumping the waste water.

I'm not trying to be a nay layer, but I have dealt with environmental agencies a great deal, and trust me, you do not want to get on their bad side. The fines can far surpass the money saved.

Also stay away from pmb, soda blasting or other media blasting unless you want to spend all your flying time cleaning it from every nook and cranny.

Just my two cents... paid for through experience.

B25 Grumpy was evidently blasted with crushed walnut at some point, 25(?) years later it still falls out of places when the aircraft has been flown.

I like the original colors too, but, as the owner of Sparky (the Jelly Belly P-51) once said to me,"YOU pay the bills and I'll paint it any color you want".

I don't think anything could top American markings... in particular, Texan markings! :D
