A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

My current investigation shows CAF, Muszala, Lane, Cartledge, Deckert, and Avezzie do not have any.

Here's a long shot, but if you want, you can check with the National Museum of the Pacific War/Pacific War Museum, in Fredericksburg, Tx. 830-997-8600,
www.pacificwarmuseum.org . I know ( when I was in Texas ), they have an Avenger, maybe as a future wing swap? or as a link to one ? A long shot for sure! Good luck!

I have seen the Fredericksburg Avenger numerous times. It is quite authentic "fresh off the carrier". They have kindly allowed me to crawl all through it, taking many pictures to guide our own restoration effort. Swapping a cosmetic wing with any museum's flyable one has always been an option. But I won't go there unless our own wing is non-repairable. I now have all the Grumman drawings, and we now have the materials, tools, and staff to effect a repair. Note that any wing, even if removed from a museum, that of itself does not make it airworthy! A lot of follow-on effort needs to be done to check for corrosion, cracks, etc. It nearly doubles the overall effort to create the museum replacement wing vs. a "stand alone" wing. I do thank you for the thought!
