Mystery Barn find- aircraft ammo tracking...help!?

Hello all,

Herewith a couple of pics of a mystery item my Museum has been offered. A chap was renovating a 200year old house and came across this...he reckons its made of copper but rather than weighing it in has offered it to us! He reckons it may be ammo tracking and I can see why he would say that but I don't recognise it....

Anyone have any clues... or is it any good to anyone?
