A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

Hi all,
I wondered if anybody had any good links or book recommendations on this topic? I'm in the enthusiastic amateur category when it comes to stuff like this - I can just about hold my own with mild steel due to playing with old cars, but want to get better at fabrication. I want to expand my own skills and need a starting point to learn more.
I've seen the impressive work that goes into some of the projects on here, as well as replica cockpits and the like. Gary Austin's old posts regarding the B24 and Hot-rod were extremely helpful, but I need more! So... I would appreciate some pointers to get me started. I'm looking for idiots guides to rivetting, what kind of tools I should be acquiring, that sort of thing.
Any help would be appreciated!
Regards,
Rich

Rich: Also look up
http://www.tinmantech.com for some good stuff. Kent does some really nice work and has some great videos. There are a number of clips of him doing things out on Youtube also. I've got his video on homebrew hydroforming and it's very interesting. I'm going to order his videos on the English wheel next. Kent also does workshops at his place and has done a couple now up in Alaska too.
