Auster T.6 Tugmaster VF608 - Left wing needed

Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:28 am

Currently we're working at restoring Auster T.6 Tugmaster G-ASIP which served in the RAF between 1947 and 1961.
Former RAF registration VF608.

As we like to get her into RAF markings again I am wondering if members of these forums have information and /or photos which could help.

So far I managed to get some photos from the sixties showing the aircraft in civilian G-ASIP outfit but we hope to find some more from the early RAF service as well.

The aircraft records show that it served in the UK, Germany and even acted a UK Embassy flight in the Netherlands.

Besides photos we also are looking for a left wing. Currently we have 2 right wings so we could trade one if required.
Up what I understand if that either a T.6 or T.7 wing would aply.

Cheers, André Jans

The Auster was cloned from the Taylorcraft to more closely fit what the British military wanted so wouldn't a TCRAFT wing work?

I willing to check that. Thanks!

Not sure if it works though as there are many different Auster versions and not all have the same set of wings.

Until shortly there was an Auster forum in the UK but it shut down due to Spam attacks. Sadly.

maybe you should contact Hérve da Silva (unless you already did), he just restored an Auster made under license at OGMA, in Portugal, to flight condition.

I think by the Mk.6 version it was a lot beefed up and a long way from the Taylorcraft origin - but I'm no expert, worth checking.

André - why not ask on Plane Talk and Key Publishing? I know there are Austerers lurking at both...

Missed that one at Key. Thank you for bringing it up. Will send them an email. For some reason we mostly looked for parts in the UK but maybe a country like France might be an option as well.

Big Auster population in Aus, and a few in NZ, but shipping might be an issue!

Good luck, keep us posted.

If you know any good part suppliers I would be grateful to hear from you.
If that's the way to get one we will have to look into it.
