This happens because Congress (both houses, both parties) and the Pentagon allow it to happen. Follow the money...

This pops up on an occasional basis and has for years, several years ago there was a big scare about undocumented HILOKS' in circulation, ever spent an entire month sorting through hundreds of thousands of identical golden-ish fasteners trying to find the evil ones?
Years ago we had issues with cabin light controllers on E-3 AWACS during final assembly functionals, Boeing Electronics who made the boxes assured the line the boxes checked 'good to go', we insisted they take the controllers back and do a full, in depth functional check on them, turns out there was a very teeny spur of solder that was just close enough to another circuit to cause arcing that shorted out the box under certaion conditions, believe the entire line (90 folks) had a free lunch on Boeing Electronics budget as the A.F. would have shredded their butts if they got to Offutt and were discovered there.
So it ain't always furrin stuff that sometimes isn't right. geek

Counterfeits that can do the intended job are not really an issue its the sub par counterfeits that can kill.

What concerns me is the possibility of high quality counterfeits containing spyware or malware.
