I personally think you can and should add a Ball turret even if its functionally pointless, to just about every aircraft ever manufactured.
I love the A-10 as is but.. a smallish caliber mini gun ball turret would make it so much better. It would give the aircraft a weapon system that can engage targets
laterally. it would allow for air support with out having to line up. granted a helo would be better suited for this role but would it have the survivability, operating range and response time of the A-10.

In order for the aircraft to laterally engage targets it would have to fly a much more predictable pattern and provided a much larger target profile than it currently does by head on attacks.
