If this fellow WAS in the military he OBVIOUSLY didn't learn anything about respect.

CY and the superego strike again, now unfortunately Nathan you've discovered why people get an odd metallic taste in their mouths or spit on the ground when his name is mentioned.
MUDDYBOOTS, the problem is, how many kicks would you need to kick him all over as he's all ass-

It sounds like you got a little "star struck" ! WHen I was 12 I read Baa Baa Black SHeep" and later that year got to see Boyington at Oshkosh. When I finally got in front of him I went blank and couldn't think of any of the questions I had been wanting to ask.He didn't say anything , but he gave this look that said, "yeah, I'm him, what do you want from me you dumb kid."
Happened again last year when I finally got to meet Steve Hinton, of which I'm a huge fan. I shook his hand and said something dumb like "thank you for your service and warbirds and all." He had a smile on his face like "that didn't make any sense."
YOu guys are correct about Yeager's personality. Would like to add, that technically, when a person retires from the military, they become a civilian again. TO be a General, you have to be in the military and have military authority. Chuck is a civilian now and it is only a courtesy to call him by his former military rank. YOu could have called him on that.

Never had a good opinion of him ever since a kid from the Make a Wish Foundation wanted to meet him and he refused to sign an autograph for a dying kid in a wheelchair hooked up to an IV. I saw this with my own eyes, at a public appearance in Tallahassee, Florida sometime in the early 90s. Those of us standing behind that kid realized there was no use in asking for signatures of our own and most people turned around and left. My blood really didn’t start to boil until after I’d walked away and realized what a jerk he’d been to that kid.

I get that he has to deal with a lot of knuckleheads, but I guess people will still feed his ego no matter how he treats them, same as all the sports greats who treated their fans like dirt. A few years after the kid situation (I think it was 96), I rode in the backseat of a P-51 flown by Ray Fowler. I never forgot his story of him telling CY to go F himself (I think he said it was at Oshkosh) over the radio in a formation with CY and several other Mustang jocks. I would have loved to have heard that! I don’t recall what he said CY’s reaction to that was. I’d bet he ignored it.
I won’t name names, but a well-known WW2 pilot who is no longer with us was signing stuff at an event years ago and had just signed my book. Real class act this man was, and he took the time to joke with me for a moment. I heard the guy behind me say, “Gee sir, you’re really nice, especially after I just met CY,” to which the vet said, “You just talked with CY? I’m sorry to hear that son,” and proceeded to have an even longer conversation with that fan, seemed to me to make up for an obviously bad encounter beforehand. I never forgot that.

Even assuming all of these stories are true, sometimes maybe it's just better to sit on them, rather than going public about it.

Especially for the good of the forum.

Just a thought.
