Although the Earthquake and resulting Tsunami is an obvious national tragedy for the Japanese there has been a major impact on aviation in the country as well. The Matsushima AFB, which is just north of the city of Sendai, and the Sendai International Airport were hit by the Tsunami wave. Matsushima AFB is home to the Blue Impulse JASDF Display Team. It is also home to an advanced Fighter Training Squadron (F-2B) and Air Rescue Wing (UH-60B). There are photos being posted showing F-2B's submerged out on the tarmac... hopefully all personnel are safe.

Amen to the hope that all the personnel on the base are okay! I just hope the loss of life in the rest of Japan has been minimal in this tradgedy.

Hard to tell from TV helicopter news tape, but I'll bet there are more gate guardians than fixer-up-ers
