IF it's an old hose and being replaced, cutting it is the best way to be sure some tightwad corner cutter won't scavenge it and re use it. Standard practices teach you to render as 'unservicable' any consumable to prevent it from reuse, so I'd say 'Good Job', unless you'd like me to put the old oil filter I took off my car onto your cars engine. |

The C-17 is an awesome airplane, pretty much in a league by itself. But when the last one goes to the boneyard, the crew is gonna catch a ride home in the back of a Herc!

Looks like it was a rigid line. Most production installations now use swedged connections, so often, the only method of removal is to cut the line. We've used cutoff wheels, die grinders and hack saw blades to remove lines before when we didn't have access for a tube cutter. There could have been B nut or LipSeal fittings, but equipment installations could have precluded removal of the line intact.... Been there...done it before. |

Im just taking a dig at my friend for this,I was there when this hose was mangled and for all I know,I might have cut it.removing 50 yr old rubber hose that has turned to stone is no fun.Just funnin with him |

A while back, Douglas/Boeing rented space in our Hangar 5 to do a wing box mod on the -17. Two birds that stuck out were the one with a grid painted on the side. It was used during testing, to see where the parachute deployment straps would hit the fuselage, and the other was the bird that "ate" a vehicle. Seems that they had a problem getting a vehicle completely off the ramp in flight. The had to close the ramp, wedging the vehicle between the ramp and fuselage in order to land!!! To me it's a C-130 on steroids! Bill |
