The US Congress has reportedly approved the sale of C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to India under the foreign military sales programme.
According to reports, the Obama Administration had notified the Congress about the sale of Globemaster aircraft to New Delhi and had sought its approval over the deal.
"India's intent to buy ten C-17 Globemaster IIIs has received U.S. congressional approval. New Delhi is now one step closer to acquiring the C-17s," The Daily Times quoted a Boeing official, as saying.
The official said that the aircraft would ably suit India's requirement of both military and humanitarian needs.
The C-17 Globemaster III is a large military transport aircraft. The C-17 was developed for the United States Air Force from the 1980s to the early 1990s.
The C-17 is used for rapid strategic airlift of troops and cargo to main operating bases or forward operating bases.
It is also capable of performing tactical airlift, medical evacuation and airdrop missions. (ANI)

No C-17s in Palmdale that I am aware of... These are going to be brand new. I think India might be considering a purchase of new Soviet equipment as well. Once they get a C-17 though they may change their mind about those. The Inspector wrote:Will those be new build (and keeping you in paychecks) or off the back lot @ beautiful downtown Palmdale? The IAF's Il-76's must be getting beyond economical repair
