M3 Stuart Tank

A good friend of mine in Brisbane is restoring a WW2 US M3 Stuart, I had a chance to see over it on the week end, and its a fantastic restoration.

Hes restored the correct Guiberson (sic) diesel radial and put it back in the vehicle, and ran it while we were there (hence the smokey photo)

Looks like a very nice restoration! Would definitely want diesel fuel on board rather than av gas!! Seems like the Stuart went through several engines in it's production span. Wonder just what the performance stats show as the best for the type taking in mind rough treatment, dust, people shooting holes in it! I know the Av Gas version was loved in the desert for it's raw speed, but fuel deliveries was always a problem.

is it one of the stuarts recovered out of panama or brazil by that british chap who bought a boat load of them this past year, pulled out of the jungle where they were disposed of????

No it came from west of Brisbane about 11 years ago, and was without a turret, he's sourced parts from all over Australia and the USA, Europe etc
