nobody got mad about this crap when we came home from Panama. Or Desert Storm. Or Somalia. Or Bosnia. Or Haiti. Sudden;y now our heros get some attention? Nope. It'll get fixed in that one barracks and soldiers will continue to live in sugar everywhere else.

I agree it's disgusting and shouldn't happen but I spent 26 years in the military and when something like this happened we complained and then took the initiative and fixed it ourselves. We "requisitioned" what we needed and did it. We whined some but pressed on and got it done. That's were a good NCO or officer proves himself.

EXACTLY! That is what is supposed to happen. Just ignoring the situation, and assuming it is "someone else's responsibility" followed by complaining to the media is the current hallmark of personal lack of initiative... I can recall painting a barracks, among other details, to keep the place in good working order, many years back.
