By looking at the photos of those two A-10,s they were probably the Demo Team, with the chrome gun muzzle. Not used in combat AC.
I have somewhere in my collection at home a photo of a 23rd TFW A-7D which was painted in a very nice Red, White & Blue paint scheme. Problem was, the Wing Commander didn't have prior approval to paint the plain from HQ TAC, and he got in trouble because of it. He was the only Wing CC, in ten years that I was at the base who didn't make a Star after leaving the base.

A-7D, the Short Little Ugly "Flyer" and A-10A Warthog, weren't called an ATTACK plane for nothing. Remember for a little relief on the ground, call your local Air Force to "Go Ugly Early"!
