The US was actively engaged in seeking out and eliminating holdouts of both the Japanese Empire and Nazi Party for many years after the official end of hostilities (which, BTW, a declaration of conclusion of major combat operations was issued, which would be the equivalent in this case) and now we are in the stage (in Iraq and Afghanistan) of mop-up and counter insurgency operations, the same phase we were in at this period after the end of major operations in WWII and the same phase we were in after the cease-fire was signed in Korea.
So you're saying that there were operations comparable to Fallujah, Ramadi, Sadr City, etc. in post-1945 Germany & Japan, and post-1953 Korea? I don't know for sure either way, but I've never come across this. I'd like to read up on it, can you recommend some sources?
