Red Flag report, F-22/TYPHOON in close

Apparently the new British TYPHOON is dead equal to the F-22 in the merge arena, German pilots flying in Red Flag were happily surprised to find the 'all conquering' F-22 was about equal to the TYPHOON. Didn't we hear the same thing after the 'all conquering F-4 PHANTOM' ran into the slow, old skool, hand cranked Mig-17 over a smallish semi tropical nation about 45 years ago?

Since it is highly unlikely that Typhoons and F-22s will ever meet in combat,the question is irrelevant anyway. The Typhoon is developing into a highly capable system for air-to-air and ground attack, and will serve its customers well. The F-22 is the best air combat fighter the world has yet seen, but is hugely complex and expensive to buy and operate, and has yet to be deployed to a combat theatre after over 10 years in service.

You're forgetting the F-4s in question were being used as bombers...
Heck, in some situations, even a third worold air force flying obsolete planes will have some success...and I'd expect them to.
In the right situation a Corsair could down a Phantom.

Air combat often comes down to situations...in some the F-22 will wipe the floor with Typhoons.
In other scenarios, they'll be evenly matched, in some cases, the Typhoon...or Chinese whatever...will have the upper hand.

People have been trying to make political points for years with such "comparisons"...awhile back the Indians were boasting they bested the F-22s in some exercise....which are meaningless.

Dogfighting normally ends up being a contest of skills, if the planes are at all similar. Since both competitors had well trained pilots, it makes sense that the results would be a wash. The question is, could anyone get close enough to a Raptor to dogfight it?

We had better hope not. Unlike the European fan boys on the other forum that love to see the US in combat....(it's like a movie for them...never mind the casualties) I don't need to see combat aircraft in action.

Just because they fly, doesn't mean they aren't afraid of oxygen issues. Probably just means they more afraid of something else.

How about the SU-30M? That is a very manueverable plane

In some situatings, a WW1 bi-plane could out-do a F-15. A tighter turn radius, slower which means more maneuverable, and As long as you have heat reducing exhausts and Sparrow missles on every wing LOL

The USAF had considerable difficulty combating North Korean pilots on night nuisance raids in their vintage biplanes during the Korean War. The wood and canvas planes did not show up well on radar, and they flew more slowly than the stall speed of the intercepting fighters.
