I am listening to an author discuss a book he edited of George S Patton's photographs taken during WW2. He mentions that Patton often flew himself in light L type aircraft and there is a photo taken by Patton from on L-5 of another L-5 that was carrying Omar Bradley near the front lines in France or Germany. I know Patton was a licensed pilot. A little later the author mentions that Patton "often flew fighter aircraft in England" in order to show troops in training what different fighter aircraft looked like. Could this be true or has the author mixed up his aircraft types?

I remember seeing a pic of an OD over Light grey painted P-51B that had been modified to a 2 seat. The caption said that General Eisenhower used it on D Day and that Gen. Patton also had one assigned later. The generals flew as observers not as pilots however. It's been a long time and I have no idea what magazine or book it was in but I am sure it is what you were posting about. So it did exist!!
