Here is a thread on BaseOps concerning the F-16 crash. Apparently CY slammed the F-16 pilot in front of a large audience for getting in a crack up.

An interesting thread.

In the spirit of counting rivets, this was not a CRASH, but a landing incident. Let's not use the term that the uninformed media uses!

I think that has something to do with CY not liking the F-16

I just spent the afternoon reading stories about people saying what an a$$-hole CY is. My goodness.
Even if just a third of these accounts are true, it is quite an internet indictment. It will be interesting to see what appears in the media when he kicks the bucket.

On the other hand, I met Bob Hoover once. It was at a CAF function during AirSho 2006. He came into the area of the large hangar where CAF has their dances and such. He was by himself and no one was really around and those few who were present either did not notice him or did not know who he was. I immediately recognized him. I went up to him and politely introduced myself. He shook my hand and looked at my name tag and addressed me by my name. I told him how much I enjoyed the one-engine/no engines aerobatics at OshKosh I had seen. He was a real nice guy. We spoke for a few minutes. Eventually people figured out he was there. As I was walking away, people began to mob around him. Glad I got to talk with him like I did.

As for CY, I'll be happy to steer clear.

I'm not commenting one way or the other about the incident, however IF the CY chewed the guy out in public, that breaks the first tennant of being a good and respected leader that people will want to follow. You Praise in public and admonish in extreme private.

I'm pretty confident that the poor guy didn't get up that morning thinking 'OH BOY! I'm gonna prang a multi jillion dollar airplane before dinner'.

Slightly OT, but I went to Hoover's talk at Oshkosh in the EAA Eagle Hangar on Wednesday morning. The first 45 minutes were a fascinating insight into some of his flight testing experiences and his corporate time at NAA/Rockwell. However, the final half hour or so was a long, rambling description of how certain 'rotten apples' (as he described them) in the FAA were 'out to get him at any cost'. It made rather sad listening to hear how bitter and twisted Hoover remains about the entire situation. :(

I walked away from 2 of Yeager's presentations (one in the Eagle Hangar, the other at Conoco-Phillips Plaza) after hearing that we were forbidden to post any pictures of him on the internet.

Did you read the thread? He did not chew the guy out.
He apparently said things about the pilot, who was not present, to a large crowd in an auditorium. What a class act.

I agree with you; CY should not be doing these things. Why? Why does he do this? He is also mean to kids. What the heck is up with that?

About 10 years or so ago, he parked his gator directly in frong of me, like three feet in front of me at the airshow, and I was sitting on the ground. It was extremely rude I thought, it was near the diag taxiway in vintage, and there was about 50 feet in front of me wide open, he had to park right in my view. Googled CY being a jerk when I got home, found out that yep, he is.

Maybe at the next airshow some one can be an a-hole to CY first, and beat him to the punch. TM

I'm not sure that this is on-topic (warbird or F-16 - ie. modern military), OR productive (don't want to get the forum in trouble with legal issues)... Locked for now.
