U.S. Air Force T-X Program?????

Mon Nov 30, 2009 4:01 pm

"T-X is the next U.S. Air Force trainer aircraft program set to replace the T-38."

Anyone know more? Is this a supersonic capable aircraft?

I understand L/M is currently working on a simpler (not cheaper) two seat version of the F-22 but it's avionics package is deeply confused and shuts down when it enters a TCA and goes nuts approaching a localizer beacon, Radio Shack is being called in as a consultant in this matter.
Shouldn't take more than 23 to 27 years to get into serious (3 to 5 per year) production with the plant to be located in either Viet Nam or Elbonia with workers hired from the Andes in Bolivia.

The T-38 is slated to live until 2015 or so.

There has been a lot of work it's replacement for the last 6-9 years at the USAF. When I last had any involvement in the process (which was 5 years ago), they were leaning toward something like the T-50 Golden Eagle as the replacement.

While the airplane may or may not be supersonic (the T-38 is, of course, but they don't even have the "boom" ride in the pilot training syllabus anymore), more important is the energy/turn performance, as well as the avionics.

The program is still ongoing down at Randolph, but I don't knot the current status.
