Post subject:  Mexican AF Airframes

Greetings,

I am a third generation flyer, both my dad and my grandfather served in the Mexican Air Force; I have a thing (liek most of you) for vintage aircraft, I particularly love Stearmans, Texans and Trojans; A while ago, I have found on this site a few a/c that are still flying that once upon a time were flown by my grandfather, I though that was very neat... Since then I have become interested in helping tie the present with the past...

My request is.. If anyone has information, pictures or owns an ex-MAF a/c please let me know. I have a lot of material that could serve in finding out more about the origins of these aircraft.

Cheers and hopefully some of you could help me!

First, I would go to Joe Baugher's site at:

http://www.joebaugher.com/

..and go to these menu items:

USAAS/USAAC/USAAF/USAF Aircraft Serials

US Navy/US Marine Corps Aircraft Bureau Numbers

US Coast Guard Aircraft Bureau Numbers

Do a "Find on This Page" search using the term "Mexican" (you'll also get hits on Mexicana Airlines) for each year serials. Below are just a few examples:

A-24B (SBD)
42-54532 CAF Dixie Wing, Atlanta, GA

To 169th FS (ANG), Peoria, IL Oct 1956. To MASDC Oct 1957. To MAP Sep 1958. To Mexican AF as FAM 954. In 2009 was under restoration in Portland, OR.

For those aircraft with a listed "N" number for their US registrations, you can go to the following site to check on current status:

http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry ... quiry.aspx

Hope this helps...
