Warbird Information Exchange

Ran across this in a pile of my USAF Dad's old photos. Nothing written on the back. He was based at Mitchel Field on Long Island where he flew C-119s from 1955-57. After that he was based at Miami International at a USAFR base on the airport from 1957-60. From the look of the cars, I'm guessing that this crash was about 1955-60 or so. I tried the Google it to find out what the story was but couldn't find anything. I doubt that the accident was at MIA. He was also based at Keesler AFB in Biloxi until 1962 and it might have been there......... Anyone have a clue where else I might seach to find out more?

Looks like it went up on its nose and then on over. Kind of strange that both wingtips are ripped off though..... Any help would be appreciated!

Cartwheeled? Note the bent nose, that would account for both wingtips.

Anyone know of any USAF Accident lists/data base on the web? All that's on the back of the photo is "Official USAF Photo"....

Appears cartwheeled from a single engine (right) power loss improperly flown....

My off the cuff guess is G-188 51-5305 lost in Puerto Rico during a landing accident.

Any possibility it's not a flying accident at all? Maybe hurricane or other storm damage....

I have emailed a guy that runs an HU-16 web site asking about this accident...... Still waiting to hear back.....

Doesn't look like storm damage, the left engine has a curve to the prop blade that's sticking up.
