Post subject:  Better Late Than Never, Some Pictures From Midland

So obviously I'm new to this forum, so I figured for my first post I should probably contribute something worthwhile.

Here are some pictures I took from my trip down to the Midland Airshow, with my dad, Bill.

Getting ready to take off from Boulder.

What it looks like in the back seat.

View of the Flatirons in our wake.

Coming up on Colorado Springs

Clouds are cool.

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191908671

Now some pics from the show.

It was pretty amazing to see this, and authentic zero. So crazy to think about how few of these are left. I'm pretty sure its not boring to fly.

This thing really captured my attention, too. I was talking about it with my dad, and I swear the fuselages, while looking like regular p-51s, are bigger than a normal one. Anyone have any insights? Anyways, pretty interesting plane. I've heard about a lot of the crazy projects from WWII, but haven't seen anything like this in real life before.

Everyone likes explosions right?

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909102

Now the trip back.

We saw this at (I think?) the Amarillo airport. We weren't sure what it was, but my dad figured someone on here would have a better idea.

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909174

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909222

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909254

Another roll before we got to Boulder

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909295

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z59/ ... 1191909320

And the view of the Flatirons as we descend.

I had been meaning to post these for a while, but my computer was having some issues. I know they're a bit late, but hope someone can still get some enjoyment out of them.

Ok, I couldn't get the pictures to work so I just deleted the [img] tags, so they'll at least work as links. I'm sure theres a thread somewhere that would tell me how to get them to work, but I really just did this tonight because I needed a bit of a break from writing my paper on Anglo Saxon literature.

'Tis a Republic F-84F Thunderstreak. I believe that this example was part of the now defunct English Field Air and Space Museum.

The serial number is 52-6553... it's not listed in the warbird registry, but if anyone wants to cross reference it, here's some info from Joe Baugher's site:

Drister Aviation and Space Museum, Amarillo, TX. Noted recently at English Field Air & Space Museum, Tradewind AP, Amarillo, TX. In 1987 was at Florence Air and Missile Museum, Florence, SC

Another photo of this jet can be found HERE...

Wow... that looks like an amazing trip. I loved the cloud shot over the front cockpit by the way. I hope that you don't mind me slightly editing your post so that the images actually appear in it. Just use the IMG command, instead of the URL one. I just thought that your story needed to have the illustrations right there.... Many thanks for posting these images...

Cheers,
Richard

Hey, thanks for fixing that for me. I tried using the image tags, and used the address from the properties of the pics, not the address bar, but it didn't work for some reason.

Like I already said, it was after a ridiculously long night of studying, so I wouldn't be too surprised if I was just not being the brightest.

Regardless, thanks, and I'm glad you guys liked the pics.

Post subject:  Another Rider of TE308's Back Seat

Via Flicker's TE-308 Group I linked to your entry and the fabulous photos.
I flew with your dad in about 1989 and wrote about in Live Journal <http://tinkll1.livejournal.com/6780.html>

My photo scanned and posted to LJ <http://tinkll1.livejournal.com/7512.html>

This was the culmination of a dream that began during World War II, and I'm writing from London after attending a meeting of 74 Squadron, RAF, in Warwick. Cliff Spink, Retired Air Marshal, RAF met your dad last year, and this link show photos of him asw he took over as President of the Squadron Association. <http://web.mac.com/tinkll1/iWeb/Site/74%20Squadron%20Banquet.html>

Needless to say, I loved the photos of TE308. Say "Hi" to Bill from me and my wife, Lin.
