Great photo. However I hate to say it, but this looks staged. The lettering on the nose art is totally complete and I can't see any paint on that brush. He'd actually be over-painting completed letting with a brush with a black tip. Yep, that's staged, all right. I have seen photos like this before, where the photographer wanted someone working on everything all at once. There's a pretty well known series of photos of the "Nine O Nine" in the 91st BG, where there are mechanics swarming over the B-17. At a 91st BG reunion, a few of the men there told me that was staged and that only one person in those photos was really doing any work!
Most nose artists I talked to over the years told me they usually did their work after all the other ground crews were gone as they got tired of mechanics critiquing their work while they painted.
