Oh man, with all this lovin' going around about the P-40 lets post as many pictures as we can of the P-40. Be it old, current, painting, what have you. Lets pay a little tribute to the P-40 and the men that flew and maintained them. The P-40 gave many countries the ability to fight and survive for another day. We owe our lives to the brave men that fought the early days of the war. When the odds were against them but yet they kept on fighting. Remember them, always remember them. ![]() "Every pilot that jumped into a P-40 and flew a combat mission is a hero to this boy". Anyway, sorry for the preaching. I just love the P-40 though. ![]() So C'mon folks, lets see how many P-40 pics we can get up and post! ![]() ![]() Taken at Geneseo 2007: ![]() ![]() Cheers, Nathan |

The first period photo posted by Martin shows P-40K 42-9985, based at Sarasota AAFld. Here's a couple shots of the same ship on display at Main St. And Pineapple Ave. in Sarasota, Florida... probably 1943. If you bought a war bond, you could have your picture taken sitting in the cockpit of the airplane. ![]() Project 914 Archives (Steve O. Reno collection) ![]() Project 914 Archives (Steve O. Reno collection) When I first got these photos, I was a bit doubtful that this was the same ship as the one in the photo that Martin posted. But soon thereafter I discovered this image online showing a young girl named Jean Marani in the cockpit of this same Hawk at Main and Pineapple... ![]() Jean Marani collection (Florida State Archives) Fade to Black... |

No problemo... P-40 39-280 ![]() Project 914 Archives (Steve O. Reno collection) Anyone familiar with this insignia? ![]() Also, here's a common shot of 39-280 that has appeared in print quite often. It was also used in a series of prints issued by the USAF in the 60s and/or 70s. These prints are mechanically printed, not actual photographic prints. I've had a hard time finding an actual wet print of this photo... so if anyone can steer me in the right direction, even to a good quality scan, I'd be appreciative. ![]() USAF photo Fade to Black... |
