I was really hoping to get that gunsight and donate it to a certain F-86 crew chief though. Maybe next time.

Well first you get on top of the airplane wing and lay down on your belly. Put the camera on a foam mat to get the lowest possible angle and to absorb any vibrations from Chris's awesome screw turning ability. Look through the view finder. Try to get the crick out of your neck. :cry: Look through the view finder again. Take the photo as Chris puts in one screw after another. But seriously, I used a Canon EOS30D, 33mm focal length, f6.3, 1/6 second, 400 ISO, hand held, available light in the hangar. Thanks for asking, and thanks for a great contest. I really enjoyed the photos. :D

1/6 second? Interesting. I guess he wasn't moving too much except for his hands! Very nice and sharp except for the motion blur!

Trust me it took several shots to get what he wanted, which explains all the stretching he had to do for the sore neck! I am still surprised he didn't break the camera with the subject that he had.

Well, the whole point of the contest was seeing maintenance or restoration taking place

Those shots were more of an after action deal and waaaay too static. As you can see, the winning photographs were ones that captured the essence of the work being done. Nothing personal - you know I count you a friend enough to give you a phone call on occasion! Maybe a future contest should be for best museum or static indoors shot! :idea:

I'm still not sure what to do for the next contest. I've gotten all of one or two comments since this contest and I'm not sure I want to do another one by myself - without at least a little help.

Maybe next year can be a repeat of this year's contest. Maintenance is what we do, so it makes sense to me to just keep on keepin on. Now that we know that there will be a contest, maybe we can take the time to break out the camera once and a while. There is no reason that mechanics should be unhearalded! This should give us plenty of time to take current photos.

As far as judges go, how about some newspaper photographers, or maybe a local junior college instructor that might pitch in. They could be located anywhere via the internet... Maybe a local pro would be honored with such a job. After all, the photo should tell the story to everyone. Just thinking.

On the subject of prizes, maybe there are prizes out there amongst us. Does anyone have a cool thing they want to put up for grabs? Maybe a 3350 cylinder or something like that?
