Mgawa got me to digging around for B-25s in Europe and one of the photos I found was this one...

Aaah, the infamous B-25 unicycle, didn't go over too well due to the huge weight required in the nose to allow for proper CG, the circus high-wire performers trained as crews and the failure of the single tire to withstand the weight loading!

Actually, I would like to find the "after" picture. Between the tail bumper and a wingtip I wonder how much damage it actually caused.

Guess a lot of that would depend on if they kept it straight down the runway and the nosegear didn't collapse. A bumpy ride for sure!

Doesn't look like the nosewheel is all the way down..it probably collapsed as soon as it got weight on it.

Any chance this is a takeoff with a slower retract of the nosewheel? No landing flaps extended which could be because of hydraulic problem or becuase he just took off. Could be a hotshot takeoff...keeping it low for the impressive climbout display?

it could be a takeoff but why whould he be over the grass? It seems as though he's coming in for a landing in the dirt to avoid blocking the runway... just a thought

I think the one prop feathered is a giveaway...

Apparently the B-25's name was "Angel of Mercy" and indeed it was on landing. The hydraulic system was shot up after a rough mission and the crew elected to attempt a landing.

" Please keep your hands & feet inside the ride until we have come to a FULL and COMPLETE stop....No need for chocks!!"
