Boeing has reached a deal with G.E. for updated, more fuel efficient engines to be installed on the 777X which should be in service by the end of the decade.
While Boeing was more interested in moving ahead with the 878-10 in the past, the focus has shifted back to the X. The new 777 will be larger, with new composite wings and more fuel efficient engines sole sourced from G.E. who already provide all engines for the 777-300ER, and 777-200ER, and 777 freighters.
