May 11, 1996 VALUJET N 904VJ operating as 'Critter 592' crashed in the Everglades because of an unknown, and undetected by the crew fire in the forward bag pit caused by burning 02 pax generators, dozens of them having been loaded (in violation of FAR's) by unsupervised individuals who had no training in haz mat identification. The 02 generators burn @ around 560f (equal to the broiler rod in your oven) and they set the cardboard boxes they were in on fire which set fire to a spare mainwheel and tire also loaded in the bag pit-result 110 people killed because of inattention and stupidity. |
