Does anyone have any experience with W.A.R. replica homebuilt aircraft? I'm seriously considering building one of their 1/2 scale P-47s, possibly with some slight modifications. It would be tremendously expensive, but I'd love to put a Rotec 3600 150hp 9-cylinder radial on it. In any case, if you've had any experience with one of the W.A.R. aircraft, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the designs. Thanks! Zack |

Have you ever sat in one? They are quite small inside. |

That's the great thing about amateur built experimental aircraft - you can build them to fit you. I don't think it would be too different from the guys building wide bodied Pietenpols. I HAVE had a ride in the front seat of a Piet before at Brodhead. That was was fun! I don't think it would affect the design too much to widen the box fuselage of a W.A.R. Jug out a bit. Zack |

Zachary, There is a Yahoo groop for W.A.R. Aircraft replicas. I am sure you can find someone on there board near you, so you can check out there aircraft. I have a W.A.R. F4U, corsair kit (but have not had time to begin working on it). I need to rebuild my Yak-52, L-5 & PT-19 before I build the Corsair. Not enough time in the day Avn-Tech |

Aren't there a few that come every year to Oshkosh? I sat in one there many years ago. There is also one you can sit in at the Museum of Flight in Seattle in their kid's museum, but it has a filler piece on the seat for kids so an adult can't fit all the way in. |

Ross Grady of Canada, used to bring a couple of small replica warbirds to Osh. I am not sure, they may not have been WAR,but I seem to recall it was a P-40 and a P-47, he also owned the P-51 WHATS UP DOC. He said they were a little tricky to land. A guy at Steamboat Springs, Co, build a WAR, I think a Corsair. It looked pretty good, but he only flew it once, and scared himself. I think he sold it. He was not an experinced pilot, don't know if his experience is much of a barometer. Beside landing speed and handing on landing, some replicas have had overheating problems. Have you thought about one of the Loehle light replica P-40, P-51, or Spitfire? |

Was Ross Grady's a B-model or a D-model? I had seen a few different ones over the years at Oshkosh. http://members.shaw.ca/falconark/FA/mustang.htm |

If you mean Ross's full size P-51, it was D, one of the military ones bought from the Dominican Republic, and he kept the older and worn, but authentic paint job. |

I thought the Ross Grady replicas were built from Jurca plans? |

Ross owned a genuine North American P-51D, I think it was "What's Up Doc" and came from the Dominican Republic direct from military use there. Ross also, I believe had a couple of replica warbirds, I think one may have been a P-40, and/or P-51 and/or P-47. I don't know if these were Jurca or WAR. I think they were fairly small, not too sure. |
