Reading on CNN or other news today, sadly about a powered ultralight accident in Kauai. The pilot and student were seen to go down just off the south coast of Kauai, and have not been found. This is sad ,but even more so it is close to me, could even have been me.

Just two weeks ago , I was in Kauai, staying on the south shore, near Poipu, left there on the 2nd. I saw they ad and flyer for the ultralight, powered hang glider, for rides and instruction, where the student gets to fly. Of course, that was interesting to me. While sitting in the beach at the Sheraton, we twice saw a powered hang glider with two people fly by. If he could and would have landed on the beach, I would gladly have gone for a ride. One day we drove to the western side of the island to the Port Allen airport, and saw the helicopter office, pretty shut down on that windy day, and also the trailer with the name Birds of Paradise and a photo of the hang glider on the side. No one was home, and I never got my ride, was busy with other things like eating lot's of fish.

This was the company that lost the people today, in pretty much the same place where I was and where I had seen them flying. A sad thing. There have been some other accidents in the last few years , one not fatal that were in the news.

There are of course thousands of sightseeing flights there, and some spectacular scenery.

No more info on why, but a sad thing.
