I am up near Chicago right now, and just read that apparently the parks division of Chicago have no idea what to do with the land now that the Olympics are not coming to Chicago. No one is visiting the park that they though was going to be a huge draw. Some consideration is being given to sell the land back to the City of Chicago from the Parks Commision and possibly give the land to the Friends of Meigs Field who want to make an airport and air museum there. I was there abotu 6 months ago, on a nice day, and was the only one there.

Wouldn't that be nice. Wish Obama was a pilot, not just a basketball player. The girl's are a little too young for the Young Eagles program, but one can always hope.

I doubt if the local officials are ever likely to lose face gracefully.

It would be awesome. Pat, not a paper just a clipping from a magazine from Chicago that someone saved for me. Not an aviation magazine.

The Daley political machine will never allow it. They exported their " City Planning Experts" to Berlin and as a result Tempelhof got closed. How many jobs were lost? I can personally attest that the City of Chicago lost thousands of dollars a year from my family alone, we used to fly into Meigs once or twice a month, meeting my dad when he came back from a UAL trip. Then we would go out to eat and maybe spend the night, topping off the tanks in the 182 before leaving.
Great times, good for the City. We have not been back since they destroyed the airport in the middle of the night. I hope the voters up there appreciate what Richard Daley has cost them.

Sorry people Meigs Field is closed forever!!!
As long as the Daley machine is in place, that mayor will never allow it...
We were SHOCKED if not OUTRAGED when we found out that morning
what "HE" did, he should have gone to jail...
"HE" will mean "DALEY".
When "HE" even found out that a U.S. Coast Guard station might use the
field, he pannicked.
He did not want anything aviation related at that field!!!
His "Union Buddies" wanted that property used for a "Park/Casinoe"...
Why do you think that the 2nd largest city (area wise) in the U.S. does not
have an active helicoptor police force????
He (Daley) HATES AVIATION...
He actually hates to fly...
