The next time that there's a fire burning in a large open field full of Dixie Cups with no wind blowing,we'll know which tanker to order.This airplane and the DC-10 certainly can be useful under certain cercumstances,such as large range fires,but are of limited value for small initial attack fires.It could be another tool in the fire-fighting toolbox if enough money can be found to pay fior it.

Here's a link to a summary of the operational evaluation on Very Large Air Tankers that's been approved for public release.I have other info that I'm not sure has been cleared.
