I was shopping @ COSTCO in Everett this A.M. and came up behind a couple. The woman had on an embroidered denim shirt for 'MISS ASHLEY' #38, I watched that aircaft get built and tested and felt great sorrow when Gary died in it. The sight brought a small wave of sadness, I told the couple what I was feeling and they agreed it was nasty, but she wears the shirt as a tribute to a great race pilot and a daring idea

Yup. That was a bad day when that airplane came apart. I've never seen anything else like that.

Are you sure? I took the day before it broke up. Lear jet wings on her.

Don't take this wrong, but that head-on photo is definitely the wrong airplane. That is Precious Metal, and to my knowledge, it still retains the Mustang wings.
Gary Levitz was in the pit right next to us and I would occasionally offer help on the airplane. When he was lost that day, it was a sight I'll never forget, and when his Crew Chief went from pit to pit, dispersing things "we'll never need again," it was one of the saddest moments I've ever had at Reno.

Gary, never taken the wrong way. I thought that Gary's plane was the only one with counter rotating props. But of course you are right, Ill need to dig through my photo shots. AiRick

When we painted her at BF Goodrich it was very odd to see this tiny airplane in a massive paint hangar, I was used to seeing 747's, 27's and 37's in the paint shop. It was like placing a matchbox car in the middle of a three car garage. I was fortunate to see her fly at EAA Arlington.
