Sadly Pip Borman was killed in the crash of his new plane at Shepparton, Australia whilst practicing for the Avalon Air Show.
RIP

Pip Borrman was flying his new biplane, a custom creation known as Samson,
Originally designed and built by Curtis Pitts as a 1 off airshow machine, and then replicated 4 times since, Pip`s was the newest, and in many ways the best.
It was a stunning aircraft, and he an excellent pilot.

It appears he lost power very low down, no time to recover, and he impacted heavily.

This is so tragic.

I spoke to Pip several times privately and at air shows. He really was one of the best.
My weekend was doubly bad as one of my boat racing friends died when his hydroplane blew over. He had been driving this boat for 20 years. He was having the time of his life on Sunday winning every race he entered. I guess you just dont know when your number is up.
The hard part about all this is deciding whether to continue with your hobby knowing the risks or hanging up you boots for your families sake.

I'm sorry for your loss, I saw a SAMSON replica about 15 years ago @ ARLINGTON's EAA fly-in, very impressive!

Personally I hope to die @ 95+ years old while riding my motorcycle, I'm like the LYNRD SKYNRD lyric 'you won't find me in a old folks home..'
If you give up what floats your boat, then you just completely give up and that's no way to survive (because you sure ain't living!)
I wear a sweatshirt that says -
'Lifes journey is NOT to arrive at the graveside in a well preserved body,
but rather to slide in, totally worn out shouting
HOLY S#IT! WHAT A RIDE'
