A notice was put on our bulletin board, that the TSA is targeting gen av, which will include some of the larger warbirds. This notices gives these figures for the busiest gen av airports in U S, ie most takeoffs and landngs.

Phoenix Deer Valley, Az. 372,000
Van Nuys, Ca. 358,000
Long beach. Ca. 357,000
Falcon Field, Mesa, Az. 305,000, also a CAF base
Daytona Beach, Fla. 296,000

While I don't vouch for the figures or the conclusions, they are interesting.

If Obama wants my support, disband the TSA his first day in office! What a disaster.

What cockroaches are to a dilapidated apartment, the TSA is to Daytona Airport! Freaking ex-Burger King employees with unfettered power. Sickening.

Rick, how could you say that? Burger King employees are much nicer. I do think TSA is improved over what it was when it first became the airport SS. I used to get extra search every time I flew one way. Any good terrorist could catch on pretty quickly and buy round trip. They finally quit doing it.

Bill and Rich,

With all due respect, I think that the forum's rules against making fairly incendiary personal comments probably would rule against calling folks "cockroaches." As a regular traveller, I have encountered a lot of TSA agents that are really good folks just trying to do a job that the government has asked them to do. Are there some bad eggs? Absolutely. Do they give everyone else a bad name? You bet. In the same way that the Tailhook scandal was not representative of all naval aviators, bad TSA agents are in no way representative of all TSA agents.

My father in law spent 30 years working for the Fire Department, rescuing folks from burning buildings and ugly car accidents, providing comfort to families at the scene of fatal accidents, and working hard to make our community a better, safer place. After his retirement, he was offered a job with the TSA. He works long, weird hours (6 days in a row on, 2 off) with no regular weekends. He works hard, always has a smile on his face, and often talks about trying to think about how inconvenient his job makes others, and how hard he tries to make that inconvenience at least a little less miserable. He's a good, honest, friendly guy who happens to work for the TSA. A cockroach? I don't think so, and I think it does him and his coworkers a disservice for anyone to so grossly characterize them as such. He's the first to talk about some of the difficulties of the job, but works hard to make them at least tolerable.

Do I think the TSA was a bad idea, and that it hugely imposes on us, the regular, responsible travellers who only want to go from point A to point B? Absolutely. Do I think that the new administration should take a hard look at it? You betcha. Would that put my father-in-law out of a job? Maybe, but he'd be fine. Does a bad government policy make all of the agency's employees cockroaches? Nope.

Off the soapbox.

Respectfully,

kevin

That's because you are a liberal. Now that the libs have taken over, I'm the one who's going to get the double inspection. You don't have to worry anymore.....

When does the re-education camp start again so I can attend?

boy, Kevin, as for as rules on WIX, nobody wrote anything personal about you.
My topic was from a story in USA Today by Thomas Frank.

My post was about a govt agency which has been given a lot of power, a big budget, and very liitle accountabilty to the public. Among it's noticaeble acheivments have been harrassing Ted Kennedy, a United States Senator who had one Brother killed in WWII on a dangerous volunteer mission, and his other Brother was also decorated WWII combat vet. Since you are from a Red state, you probably don't put too much creedance in the Kennedys, so I'll also point out one out one of their other big catches was Medal of Honor winner Joe Foss, a former Republican governor, as well as head or the AFL and NRA..

And I didn't refer to your Father in Law or anyone else here as a cockroach. If you think so,then how about posting my exact words as a quote. This wasn't about firemen nor in any way critica of them. Your Father in Law may be a great guy, but I don't think we need to see TSA's feelers in general aviation, especially at the lower, non corpaorate end.

This proposal is for planes over 12,500 lbs, FOR NOW, but what govt program does not tend to expand it's aim?

I agree Bill. It's just that if we're to have a civil discussion about aviation/warbirds, "cockroaches" is maybe just less than civil.

Fascinating, Bill. Because I'm from Oklahoma, I can't have great respect for a guy who has served admirably in the Senate? I may or may not disagree with his politics, and I may or may not be a Republican, but again, that's a pretty broad brush to paint with. Huh.

"And I didn't refer to your Father in Law or anyone else here as a cockroach. If you think so,then how about posting my exact words as a quote. This wasn't about firemen nor in any way critica of them. "

Nope, you didn't. But Rich did. And you just chimed in on Burger King. But I was just trying to point out that the TSA folks are human beings, just the working end of a policy that may by lousy.

I'm done, just wanted to ask folks to be civil.

For the record, I was comparing the QUANTITY of TSA to our little brown friends (save the "you're a racist" comments please) at Daytona moreso than their position on the evolutionary scale. Get a grip, people!

What they are is a bunch of finger nail file hating individuals that get their jollys every time they find one of those dreaded hi-jacking tools on some poor old lady and interagate her for hours. I feel safer every time I fly because of them and who knows how many 12,500# airplanes are up there with those dreaded tools flooping around.

A couple of years ago I met up with several of my former instructors who are now airline captains. As we sat there enjoying the food and refreshments at Hooters, John pulled out his nail clippers which had a nail file attached and asked the others to pull out their clippers. The other two pilots had nail clippers that had the files snapped off compliments of TSA. John said that TSA had snapped off his file so after he cleared security he went into the gift shop and a bought a new pair with a file.

They also told me that they all used to carry Leathermans tools. Now that they can't, if they encounter something like a loose screw or fastener they have a delay while maintanence comes to take care of it.
