I just had this thought as I was driving back home after my completing my fist solo cross country. Would anyone be interested in making a "sticky" here where members undergoing flight training can post their achievements? This could also be used as a place for members to post questions and concerns that arise during training. As well as a forum where the more experienced pilots among us to assist those working to further their qualifications. Kind of like a WIX ground school. Any interest? |

I forgot what words get edited here. You're supposed to be slightly more than darned. ![]() As for the thread, I'd venture to guess there are quite a few people here working on some rating or another. I'd also guess that there are many here that already hold that rating. It can't hurt. |

OK This thread hasn't seen much action lately, but I'll join the fray. I started my private pilot end of Sept. And ended up jumping in with both feet by buying a '76 C150M from a friend/coworker (who upgraded back to a Pitts S2B ex-Holiday Inn). Once I started, it was like drinking from a firehose.. I soloed a couple weeks ago at 20 hrs. And have 26 now, the last have been me providing aircover for my tri-airport area HFY-GEZ-MJQ. My A&P background of 14 yrs has been extremely helpful of course. Currently preparing for cross country flights & dealing with weather (tiz the season). I never thought I would own a plane, but after running the numbers (rent vs own), it only made sense. Plus not only did I get a solid airplane, I got the support from my friend who has flown and owned for 30+ years. My instructor is retired DoD - compass and clock type of instructor. I also have three other friends locally who are pilots w/ advanced ratings as mentors - who have been invaluable. Best of luck to all getting up and down! |

New to this site. When I am able to get back into the air, I want to get my commercial (I failed the oral portion of my first try) then the CFI ratings. In the meantime, this thread will help keep the fire kindled. Those who have started, KEEP IT UP! It's the adventure of a lifetime! |

Curtiss, are you using the practice tests on the Sporty's website? If not, they are a great practice tool; you can take tests whenever you like. It was a great help for my commercial knowledge test. |

Yeah it was the Sportys test. I've used better but they cost $$$. My biggest issue with Sportys is how difficult it can be to read the carts and figures. I have a test prep kit that is two books. One with the questions and answers and one with all of the figures. I've found it helpful to have the book with the figures at hand when taking a practice test it's easier to read, easier than say holing a plotter to the screen, no multiple windows to position, re-size and fumble through. IIRC it is the same as the book they give you for the actual test so the figure numbers correspond with the ones in the practice test. I didn't have it out last night though. |

I personally prefer to use http://freefaatestsprep.com/ as they have the tests available for free all the way to the CFI... which I don't think Sporty's has. I think all of the actual knowledge tests I've taken have been over 90. I'm officially an Advanced Ground Instructor now! Don't have employment with it yet. Ryan |

I used the Gleim manuals for study; the full-sized illustrations are indeed a lot easier to use than the ones with the Sport's tests, which only go to commercial.
