Well today I took my first flying lesson at The Livermore Municipal Airport(LVK) in California (already taken intro) and it was awesome. I did some stalls, landings, takeoffs, taxiing, and just flying. I can't wait till my next lesson. The instructor told me that when I start flying more I should probably get my own headset, so I was wondering what headsets you guys think are the best and recomend? |

That very much depends on how much you want to spend - up to $1000! For initial flight training, if I was starting out again, I'd purchase one of the new cheap ones off of Ebay, and start saving as you go along for a nice ANR headset after you get the license. Should be able to find a decent one in the $50-80 range. Ryan |

My Flight school sells david clark headsets. David Clark H10-30 H10-13S H10-13X Are these good headsets? |

Aviation Consumer has recently tested headsets. Amoung the standard ones, as usual, David Clark was the first choice, can't recall if it was the 10-13 or 10-30, and I don't have the issue here. However to the contrary, for noise cancelling, they did NOT like the Clark as well. I think they chose the Telex. If money is no factor, the Bose may be the choice for normal, non warbird use. David Clark is durable, has a long history of good products and excellent service. They don't try to be the cheapest. I have used two in my Spitfire for 24 years. Mike George told me the earlier model Bose was better in noisy, (Corsair, 51) than the latest one. An option I use is a electrolet David Clark modifed by Headsets Inc. of Amarillo to be noise cancelling. It works pretty well, but the sound is not quite as sharp as before the mod. Wear earplugs and/or a good headset; most of the old guys are partly deaf. |
