I spoke with Bruce a bunch today. I was flying past Santa Paula today when I heard Bruce on the radio in the traffic pattern. I decided to land behind Bruce so I could look at the airplane and congragulate him. Bruce is very excited about how the "Mister Dickenson" is running and he says the airplane flys like a dream. He was telling me power settings and airspeeds that are just unbelievable (I know they are true). I offered to go flying in formation with Bruce this weekend so we could get some good air to air photos. My T-6 will be a great photo ship for Bruce however he is about 80 mph faster then me. I asked him if he can fly slower for the photos and he said "well I guess so". Bruce explains that the flying characteristics are like a very refined Howard DGA and it really isn't the same. Bruce had a 12:1 blower installed in the engine (instead of the 10:1) and says that he took the airplane up to 9500' and still had great manifold pressure. This is going to be one great airplane to fly cross country in. I was told the airplane now has about 10 hours on it and is getting flown a lot.
The airplane still has a little work to go (from what I can see). The interior still isn't complete and the airplane still isn't painted. Bruce has really been itching to fly it and it will get it's refinements prior to paint. So far it really dosn't need much improvments.
This is a massive project and the results are awsome! Bruce is one of those all around good guys and it is great to see the pride he takes when discussing all the finer points of the project. I will post some photos if we get to fly together.

I really need to pedal the T-6 hard in order to stay in formation with that antique, high wing, fixed gear and wing struted junker. When I get some time I will describe our first air to air encounter. It is a pretty funny story.

Back in the late 80's/early 90's a guy @ CREST AIRPARK just South and East of Kent, WA. had a MULLIGAN repro/restoration that supposedly had some parts from the original.
You could hear that baby coming from a long way off. He came to Arlington the same year Del Benjamin brought the GEE-BEE and the two of them flew laps around the fly-in for about 30 minutes, don't know what became of it - thats been about 18/20 years ago-

Guess it must not be him...but a number of years ago when I got to meet the famous singer named Bruce he actually had a Zlin....and was just about the nicest guy you ever wanna meet.

Thats the one thing that he is changing. He is setting it up to be like the original.

Eldon is a busy guy, I don't think he has flown it lately. I should call him and find out what he is up to.

Bruce was out flying the "MR.D" today. Man that thing is bad a$$. He was telling me he went out the other day and did dive tests to 300 knots. He said it didn't fly any differently at 300 than normal.
